P Hunter is a PulitzerPam Keith is an attorney, former U.S. Navy Judge Advocate General (JAG) officer, and political figure known for her advocacy on social justice, veterans’ rights, and environmental issues. Born to a U.S. diplomat, she spent her early years in various countries, including Morocco, Syria, and Brazil, before settling in the United States. She earned her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees in Rhetoric and Communication from the University of California, Davis, in 1990 and 1992, respectively, and a Juris Doctor from Boston College Law School in 1995.
Following law school, Keith served in the U.S. Navy from 1995 to 1999 as a JAG officer, handling military justice cases both domestically and abroad. After her military service, she practiced law with several prestigious firms, including Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP, Jones Day, and Ogletree Deakins, focusing on labor and employment litigation. She also served as Senior Labor Advisor for NextEra Energy Resources from 2011 to 2014.
In 2016, Keith became the first African American woman to run a qualified campaign for the U.S. Senate in Florida. She later sought election to the U.S. House of Representatives for Florida’s 18th Congressional District in 2018 and 2020, winning the Democratic primary in 2020 with 80% of the vote but ultimately losing in the general election.
Throughout her career, Keith has been a vocal advocate for universal healthcare, environmental sustainability, and veterans’ welfare. She is also a member of the Zeta Rho Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., and has been involved with organizations such as Faith, Love, Hope Charity, Inc., and the Boys and Girls Clubs of Riviera Beach.
