In March 2006, five years after declaring herself a freelance writer on her tax return (and three months following the publication of her first national cover story), Regina was named West Coast editor of Essence magazine. Along with writing cover and feature stories, representing the magazine as host and moderator for special events and penning the once-weekly, online column, View from the West, she edited her first book, He Never Came Home: Interviews, Stories, and Essays from Daughters on Life Without Their Fathers.
