Stacey Abrams is a former Democratic member of the Georgia House of Representatives, representing District 89 from 2006 to 2017. Abrams is the Democratic candidate for Governor of Georgia. The primary election took place on May 22, 2018. The general election is being held on November 6, 2018. The Georgia gubernatorial Democratic primary decided which Democrat will run to succeed term-limited Gov. Nathan Deal (R) in the November general election. The former Georgia state House minority leader, Abrams, is seeking to win the governorship by building a coalition of black voters and white liberals, most of whom live in the Atlanta area and other urban centers in Georgia.
